David Thompson Séance, November13, 2009, Shrine of the Master, Sarasota Florida. I attended the The Silver Cord Circle seance on November 13, 2009 in Florida, USA. ID's were checked before the sitters could enter the reception room. David Thompson and circle leader Chris Hood gave a pre-seance talk and answered questions about physical mediumship. This helped me to relax and normalize the experience. After an hour or so, we moved to another building where the seance took place. We were body-searched and scanned with a metal detector. David directed us to our seats which were in a U-shape along the walls. Chris taped up the doors to block out any light and to ensure against anyone entering or exiting the room undetected. Two of the guest sitters were chosen to tie up David's gag and bind David to the chair with self-locking plastic ties. They also locked a plastic tie around the mouth gag. During the seance the plastic ties and silk gag were checked by sitters with a small red light which was switched on by a circle member. The seance was otherwise in complete darkness though we could see illuminated tabs on the trumpet in the room. We sang and hummed to recorded songs to help raise the vibrations in the room. This greatly relaxed me, and I found it to be fun. This was my first sitting in a circle with a physical medium group. I trusted the circle members and my fellow guest sitters. I found the entire seance uplifting and entertaining. William, David's friend and guide from Spirit, made me feel welcomed. I had listened to audio recordings of some of the group's past seances so I wasn't shocked to hear the sounds made by the spirits when they were materializing and de-materializing in the room. I heard noises similar to gasping and guttural sounds. Also I heard "whoosing" sounds during the spirits' ingress and egress. I emphasize the sounds because they provided the clearest evidence to me. When a sitter a few seats from me asked William questions, I could hear his footsteps approach her and hear his breathing very closely. I thought, this is definitely a person-spirit near me. Although I felt no touches during the seance, I believe my fellow sitters when a few of them said they were touched by William and the other spirits who made appearances. Other sounds I witnessed were wonderful harmonica played by "Satchmo" (Louis Armstrong) and the singing of a freedom song by Howard Bloomsbury. Quentin Crisp, a published author, materialized, and put on quite the comedy show. I felt like I was in a nightclub or theater. A couple of sitters experienced reunions with loved ones in Spirit. I spoke with one of the lucky sitters afterward, and he told me he knew it was his friend who visited the seance. It was very moving. After the seance ended and the lights were turned on, we all saw David gagged and bound to his chair in the middle of the room. He was around 10 feet or so outside of the cabinet he was in during the entire seance. I did not hear or see anything during the time he was moved from the cabinet. The cabinet had been checked by two sitters a few minutes before the lights were turned on. I could give more details of the security precautions and steps taken to ensure against fraud before, during, and after the seance but that is beyond the scope of this personal account. Before the seance, I was an open-minded skeptic. I had read maybe a hundred books about mediumship but still needed to experience phenomena first-hand. After the seance, I had no doubts. I feel privileged to have been able to witness what I did and to meet David, his circle members, and the other guest sitters. It has influenced my life in an extremely positive way.
