Testimonial for Materialization Séance with David Thompson October 20, 2007 is a date that I will remember for the rest of my life. That was when I attended my first materialization séance, something I had waited all my adult life to do. The séance was with English Medium David Thompson and was held in Newton Abbott, England. This physical phenomena was the most dramatic that I have ever experienced. Keep in mind that I am not a novice to physical mediumship. For 30 years I sat weekly in development classes with Rev. Dorothy Flexer, a trumpet medium in Sarasota, Florida in the US. Spirit guides and teachers spoke every week through a spirit-materialized vocal box in which the sound was amplified by an aluminum trumpet. When Rev. Dorothy made the transition in 1996, I became the Pastor of the Shrine of the Master Church, the church that she and her husband Russell founded in 1949. The preliminaries for the séance included the removal and storage of all items from our pockets and our shoes. Then after we showed a picture ID, we were called individually into the main hall of the church where we were searched. I knew that security had to be important as the medium’s physical well-being is at stake. When my name was called, I was seated within 15 feet of the cabinet. There were 43 others in attendance that night, plus 3 from David’s team in Australia. After everyone was seated, David was searched and he removed his belt and shoes. He then sat in what I would describe as a sturdy English sitting room chair. Tim Dudley, my friend and fellow minister from Sarasota and another person were asked to secure David to the chair. David’s arms and legs were tied to the chair with individual straps that had a buckle at the end of them. After the buckles were secured, tie wraps were run through each buckle and then tightened down so that the only way the buckle could be opened was if the tie wrap had been cut. David’s cardigan sweater had tie wraps run through each button hole and a gag through the mouth was tied around his head and also tie-wrapped. Two men then lifted the chair and moved it into the cabinet. The séance began with the playing of music, and then William, David’s teacher spoke to us through independent voice from inside the cabinet. He asked the circle leader to turn on the red light and for he and another person to open the drapes at the front of the cabinet. When this was done, we could see ectoplasm coming from David’s mouth and nose flowing down into his lap. I had seen pictures of ectoplasm in books before but never with my own eyes. This was very evidential. The red light was turned off and the séance continued. William then said he was materializing and would step out of the cabinet. We were all asked to hold hands as to not be tempted to reach out and touch someone who was materialized. This would have been detrimental to David’s physical body. William soon stepped out of the cabinet and continued to speak to us. I could tell by the sound of his voice that he was only a few feet away. William spoke about the materialization process and in general to those of us who were in attendance.   Soon Timothy, another of David’s guides, materialized and went around the room greeting several of the people that he knew. He came over and greeted Phil, the President of the Newton Abbott Church who was seated next to me. Timothy touched him several times on the hand that I was holding. The touch was real and the hand felt it was at body temperature. This was dramatic. Soon two loved ones of others in the room materialized for what seemed to be their first time. They were being encouraged by the group as they began to master the process. I could hear them walking past me to speak to their loved ones at the other end of the church. One spirit entity touched his niece’s shoulder and another woman kissed her cousin’s cheek. They were telling the rest of us what was happening. Then Gordon Higginson, former President of the Spiritualist National Union, materialized and what a character he was! He greeted everyone in what I learned later was his own distinctive voice and gave a personal message to a friend of his who was in the group. After that, Timothy came through and said a former physical medium would like to speak to me. My adrenaline system by this time was in overdrive. The physical medium was Dr. Henry Slade, a famous and accomplished slate writing medium who lived in the 19th century. Dr. Slade said he had been working with me and my people for several years and would like to work with us to develop slate-writing. Of course I said yes. He then blew my mind when he said, “I am aware of some challenges you have had at that nice church of yours. Do not worry about those others, Spirit is on your side.” Dr. Slade’s words were so meaningful and evidential to me. We had started a physical mediumship class in our chapel just one month before and we were having a challenge with a few individuals on other issues. Timothy came back in and lovingly closed the séance. After the music was turned off, the red light was turned on and David, still strapped in his chair, was sitting 10 feet from the cabinet. Spirit had levitated him to that spot and his sweater was now on backwards, still with the tie wraps tightly secured through each button hole. My colleague Tim and the other person were asked to check the tie wraps and straps to see if everything was still in place. They were. This was an absolutely amazing experience. There could have been no doubt about the continuity of life by anyone attending this séance. It was beyond evidential and how fortunate we are that David Thompson has devoted much of his life, time and resources to demonstrating this proof. I am hopeful that he and his team can come to America in the near future so that more can experience his remarkable mediumship and the proof of life after death. Rev.
